In 2021 one of the Lily Trustees won a small cash prize in a competition for women in business.  Jo donated some of her prize money as ‘seed’ capital to help to launch the Lily sustainability vision by empowering the mothers to start their own enterprises – hence 'M:Power' Mothers Empowered!

Sera was the first mother to volunteer, and before you could say “Entrepreneur” £100 was send to Sera who started buying charcoal in bulk to repackage and sell in manageable-sized bags for use as cooking fuel. Electricity supply is a rarity so most families cook in a brazier over charcoal.

At Lily we would like to build on this initiative in the future and create ideas for how we can support the women in our community and give them a better chance of sustainable living for themselves and their children.

Due to ever changing prices and a lack of a stable economy our ladies need support in learning skills to run their own business. We are looking into ways in which we can help them.

If your business would like to support the women in the Lily community towards self sufficiency please reach out to us.
