About Lily

Lily provide hope for vulnerable children in a small community in the Democratic Republic of Congo in Africa. We provide an opportunity for the children to go to school, we look after their welfare and housing needs.

We do this with our Sponsor A Child program and by raising funds.

All the children Lily support were unable to afford schooling having lost one or both parents, living in extreme poverty, exposed to hunger and disease and often without hope. We believe education is critical for their futures, so sponsored children receive the education that many of us take for granted in Europe and other wealthier parts of world.

Sponsorship transforms the life of a child in The Congo - Lily provide Hope

Lily was founded in 2002 by a British couple Tony and Pat Harris when they discovered that Tony's late mother Lily had been supporting an orphan in Africa for years without ever telling anyone!

Meanwhile 5,000 miles away . . . non-denominational priest, Pastor Isaac Umba Mbaya was distributing bags of rice to vulnerable children and their widowed mothers using only his own meagre resources.  A connection was made, and Isaac became the operational face of Lily for the Congo.

The children in our community are raised in the Christian faith and the church is an important part of the community over there. It provides guidance, love and of course music and an opportunity for dancing!

Lily are a small British charity run entirely by volunteers, so we can guarantee (and demonstrate) that every penny raised goes directly to the children of the community, monthly via bank transfer.   Additional costs such as website charges  are  financed from UK Gift Aid, not from your sponsorship or donations.

For example: When you send your monthly sponsorship fee of £30 all £30 goes directly to the school to pay for education, and to buy food and basic needs.

The trustees (each also a sponsor) are unpaid volunteers and Lily don’t produce glossy brochures or costly marketing materials.
